Dúnmac Genetics DIY AI Training Course is a five-day training course that offers participants insight into reproduction, artificial insemination and equipment as well as semen handling. Our course also includes three free refresher days which participants can use at any point in the future. This course – which is delivered by experienced embryo transfer technicians and vets – offers participants access to expert advice. Moreover, each participant will receive sire advice, a video tutorial and the option to purchase their own DIY AI Kit at a reduced rate post-training.
Day One
The first day of the course is theory-based and will be held will be online over Zoom. Throughout the day, we will seek to answer any questions participant may have and we will cover a wide range of topics including:
Days Two to Four
We will spend the next four days doing practical training on a farm in Dunlavin on the Kildare-Wicklow boarder. Throughout our training, we will work closely with cows to cover various topics and hone relevant skills. Our activities will include:
Safety Measures
During the four days spent in Dunlavin, locking barriers will be in place and, for health and safety reasons, each animal will remain locked in. Participants will receive disposable gowns and gloves daily.
We have also made several changes to our course following the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic; participants must bring their own face mask and, as part of our policy to safeguard participants, each person will receive complimentary hand sanitiser. There will be disinfection points in place and participants must also ensure that their footwear is clean.
This training courses will also be subject to the prevailing coronavirus measures.
Training Course Outcomes
Upon completion of the training course, participants will receive a certificate and an application
form for a DIY AI Licence. This application should be sent to the Livestock Breeding section of the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine and will be valid for five years. Moreover, each licence is valid for three farms, therefore, participants can name two other farms, alongside their own, on their license.
