One Day Hoof Trimming, Lameness Prevention and Mobility Workshop

This course is designed to assist Farmers with the correct method of hoof trimming, checking for lameness in cattle, and how to practically and safely perform preventative hoof care.
This will improve the health and wellbeing of the animal, assisting farmers in identifying problems before they escalate.
How to practically and safely perform preventative hoof trimming using five step Dutch method. Identify common lameness conditions and treatments required, applying shoes and blocks. Understanding the causes and prevention methods, equipment requirements for hoof work. Introduction to locomotion/mobility scoring in the herd. Delivery through theory and practical “hands on” session.
10 am until 4.30pm – 6 hours. There is a short break for lunch at 1 o’clock. Participants should bring a packed lunch
During the day spent on the training course, creates for trimming animals will be in place and, for health and safety reasons, each animal will remain locked in. Participants will receive and of the necessary PPE. However you are expected to bring your own booths, wet gear and overalls.
We have also made several changes to our course following the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic; participants must bring their own face mask and, as part of our policy to safeguard participants, each person will avail of complimentary hand sanitiser. There will be disinfection points in place and participants must also ensure that their footwear is clean.
This training courses will also be subject to the prevailing coronavirus measures and can be cancelled at short notice.
Training Course Outcomes
Upon completion of the training course, participants will receive a certificate.
