Sheep Scanning Training – Course Structure

Day 1: Theory (9:30am–1:00pm)
A half-day classroom session covering the fundamental principles of sheep pregnancy scanning. Trainees will learn:
• The purpose and benefits of accurate scanning in flock management
• Understanding foetal development and key scanning timelines
• Equipment overview and safe handling
• Identifying single, twin and triplet pregnancies
• Troubleshooting common scanning challenges
This session builds a solid foundation before moving into hands-on practical skills.

Days 2–4: Practical Training (3 Days, 9:30am–4:00pm)
Participants will spend three full days gaining supervised, real-world scanning experience on farms. Practical training includes:
• Correct probe positioning and machine adjustments
• Identifying pregnant vs. non-pregnant ewes
• Counting multiples with accuracy
• Safe and efficient sheep handling techniques
Trainees will complete multiple scanning sessions to build confidence, speed and accuracy under expert guidance.
