The Dúnmasc Genetics DIY Artificial Insemination (AI) Training Course is a fully funded, five-day programme designed to equip participants with the skills and confidence to carry out AI on their own farms. Backed by the LOETB, this training offers outstanding value at no cost to eligible participants. Delivered by expert embryo transfer technicians and veterinarians, the course blends technical expertise with hands-on practice.

Course Overview

Day One – In-person Theory 

The course begins online with a deep dive into AI theory, including:

• Cattle reproductive anatomy and the oestrous cycle
• Identifying and treating fertility issues and problem cows
• Animal welfare, legal guidelines, and sanitation standards
• Semen handling, storage, and transportation
• Equipment care and hygiene protocols

Interactive and engaging, this session allows for real-time Q&A.

Days Two to Four – Practical On-Farm Training

These immersive sessions cover:

• Live cow insemination with expert guidance
• Use of reproductive tracts for practice
• Problem cow management and washout techniques
• Skill development in fertility treatment methods

All PPE is provided, and cows are securely restrained using locking barriers to ensure a safe learning environment.

Certification & Licence

Upon completion, participants receive:

• A certificate of completion
• An application for a DIY AI Licence (valid for 5 years and up to 3 farms)

This licence is issued by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine.
